Democrats, I Just Don't Get It

As a Republican, I do not label all Democrats as looney, but over the last four years, I have noticed a collective leap by many Dems off the cliff into the eventual abyss of socialism.
I cannot stand by and watch our county devolve into a land where the word liberty carries no weight whatsoever. It is to that land that the Democrats are yanking the American people.

I begin this blog by apologizing to any Democrat who may take offense to anything I write. It is not your fault that you are misinformed. Well, actually it is, but I’ll get to that later.

Understanding the basic premise of the Democratic party has always eluded me. It truly is “the party of contradictions”. It all became blinding clear to me when I broached the subject with a very close, long-time, brilliant, ambitious, successful friend of mine who is a very big Dem. He is someone whose opinion I value. I consider him to be a conscientious person.

I was bracing for a discussion that would keep me on my toes. One of tough questions, for many of which I may not have answers.

We were just walking from a restaurant to his car and I knew I didn’t have much time, so I hit him with it.

“Why are you a Democrat,” I asked.

He laughed a little and said, “Well, we are not all as brilliantly gifted as you. (SNIDE) I care about people. I don’t think we should all be running around this country playing with guns and cowboys and indians. I don’t think rich people should be allowed to make all this money and let everyone else starve.”

I HAVE NEVER IN MY LIFE BEEN MORE STUNNED.

This was a guy who I know empirically to be extremely intelligent. Was he serious?

I looked at him and repeated just that, “Are you serious?”

He replied, “Yeah.”

“So you think the government should take care of the poor?”

“Yes, I think in certain situations the government needs to give people help when they need it,” he says.

“So you think that the government giving people money sets them on the right track for success in life?”

“I think there are certain situations where welfare is necessary.”

“Ok, then if you  had your perfect world, what would the welfare system look like”

Now we’ve gotten to the car, his car, his Range Rover, I might add. And I’m pulling on the handle and the door is not opening. I yank on it about four times before it unlocks. When I sit down I look at him and ask what’s up with the door handle?

“I was saying I was trying to lock you out of the car so we can stop this conversation.”

Hmmm. Very interesting. Again, not what I expected from this man. So I try to simplify things. I figured if I narrowed down the playing field, I might be able to get somewhere.

“I think at the base level government is meant to prevent anarchy.”

“Yes, but that is not the sole purpose of government. Government is also meant to provide infrastructure...”

I conceded, “Yes, I agree, but what you view as necessary infrastructure and what I view as necessary infrastructure are two different things.”

Here he launched into a quick summary of the highway system. public schools, the economy, which he attributed to the rich making too much money and keeping the poor poor.

Gee, I guess Duke didn’t have a logistics class.

But I conceded, “Yes, I think roads are necessary.”

To be honest, I’ve not read or heard much about the possibility of privatizing road construction so I can’t truly say I feel one way or another about it. I’m not sure of the economics of it. I digress.

“What about education? I think if we privatized education, it would break the cycle of bad education in this country.”

“I disagree,” he says.

We are now pulling up to the garage where my car is parked and I only have about a minute left to explain this to him. That minute turned out to be way to short. This is what I couldn’t get out:

“Because teachers are public servants, they don’t make any money because the government cannot afford to pay them any more. If we went to a voucher system, everyone would have the opportunity to attend the school of their choice. As it is, teachers are paid nothing, so unless they are brilliant, good-hearted people who really just want to make a difference, like my sister who is currently getting her masters in literature (I admire my sister more than she knows for this), they end up with mediocre teachers who oftentimes don’t care to work harder because if they do, their salary will go up a half of a percent. So much of the time, they work just hard enough to get through the year so they can have their summers off.

Unfortunately, the teachers are not the only ones negatively affected by this system. We are completely forgetting the children. It is within the children that the Dems plant their seeds of control. And over the years, throughout the entire students’ career, the Dems feeds and water their little sapplings. So that when they reach that magical voting age of 18, they will, like robots fill out that voter registration card and check the box that reads: Democrat. Unfortunately, the word Democrat could not be further from the truth. The Dirty Dems have now created their perfect automaton. They don’t even have to pay attention to the new Democrats anymore because the liberal media feeds them now.

The reason our true American morals (pardon me for using that dirty word) have been flushed completely down the toilet is thanks to many things, but to be brief for this first entry I can narrow them to the defunct public school system, welfare, the feminist movement, the gay movement and the environmentalist movement.

My eyes are swelling so I’m going to sign off for now, but I feel I need to explain that last sentence pretty quickly.

I would love to hear your comments, whatever they may be. I really do respect all opinions. Thank God we still have a bi-party system in this country allowing all you Dems to, after seeing the light, check that little box that reads: Republican.

Night night. Please remember that the only reason I am able to sit here in my air-conditioned house and write this with no fear of “vigilante justice” is because our military and our President care greatly about our safety.
