Four-liners!

Alright, first things first; let's get the short of it out of the way and then we'll get to the long of it! These are a few poems that are only four lines long (a small tribute to our friend Emily) and played out in my mind like television jingles before I wrote them down!

1. Tender Warning

You cannot change what something is
If loving it has failed.
For love's the metamorphosis
Through which good hearts prevail.

2. Know it None

Can mortals comprehend the sky,
Or calculate the sea?
Where is wisdom in the nature realm?
The fool says, 'Just ask me'.

3. Agape'

Is charity a mistress
To the hearts of righteous men?
It seems lascivious to give
Unless good times are seen.

4. Why?

Is patience scarce a virtue
Or benevolence a fraud?
For when practice loses purpose,
Does the value count for naught?

(This one was actually a combination of four lined poems that came together in a mockery of false piety and Lewis Carrol both!)

5. Ignorance in Wonderland

How doth the proclaimed pious hearts
Improve their shining mail?
By pouring waters of contempt
On every sinless scale!

How cheerfully they seem to grin
With complacency as cause,
And welcome little patrons in
Forgetting fiscal flaws!
