The Twelve Days of Christmas

Another year has passed so rapidly. I hope this article finds all of you in good health and that you are looking forward to Christmas and the New Year. This letter is about the Twelve Days of Christmas and an explanation for it. This is my article for all of you this year. Enjoy.

The Twelve Days of Christmas is one Christmas Carol that has always baffled me. What in the world do leaping frogs, French hens, swimming swans, and especially the partridge who won't come out of the pear tree have to do with Christmas?

From 1558 until 1829, Roman Catholics in England were not permitted to practice their faith openly.

The Great Egyptian Pyramids

The Egyptian Pyramids

22 November 2007

The Egyptian Pyramids have always fascinated me. For one big reason is the question that has boggled many archeologists, anthropologists and scientists as well as myself. How did these people build these huge pyramids with over three hundred giant blocks of stones weighing nearly three tons apiece? It has been said that there are enough blocks in 5 pyramids to build a wall 7 meters high and 1 meter thick around the county of Iran.

History of Terrorism by Jim Heitmeyer

Terrorism : Systematic use of violence, terror, and intimidation to achieve an end.

History of Terrorism

The events of 9/11 and daily news from the Middle East might make terrorism seem like a modern problem. Unfortunately, it has a long and bloody history. Terror as a weapon began almost with the history of man. The word terrorism was first used in France in the late 1700s and early eighteenth century.

Leaders of the French Revolution used terror to force people to submit to their authority. In what was called the "Reign of Terror," citizens were locked up, tortured, and guillotined. French scholars of the time defined terrorism as "the system or rule of terror."

Flagstaff Arizona by Jim Heitmeyer

FLAGSTAFF, ARIZONA

FOUNDED 1876 –

Why did people come to Flagstaff years ago? They came because water was available for people, crops, and animals. They came to the San Francisco Peaks for religious reasons. They came for the lumber to build their villages. They came to enjoy the beauty of the Peaks.

One thousand years ago the Pueblo people built elaborate cities like Wupatki. The people worked in the fields, growing corn, squash, beans, and cotton. They probably loved to listen to the traders who came to their village from the south and brought wonderful seashells. The children played with clay figurines, miniature people, dogs, and houses.

Jail Sight Checks

JAIL SIGHT CHECKS
20 November 2007

Most jail facilities perform prisoner sight checks by visual, verbal or video monitors. The most affective way to perform a sight check is by visual, physical and verbal verification. Some jail standards require that sight checks be performed every hour. In one hour, a lot can happen. In my career on some occasions, sight checks were performed by ghost officers and documented for record as being performed. The jailer or detention officer figures everything is quiet and peaceful, so documents the roster as making a check. Officers that attempt to ghost check and falsely document records should be dismissed or severely reprimanded by their superiors.
